How to Set Up Your 22 Inch Ring Light

Setting up this light for the first time might seem like a lot of steps, but it’s a straightforward process.

Here is how I handle the setup from start to finish.

1. Assembling the Light Stand

  1. Loosen the bottom knob on the collapsed stand. This will release the legs.
  2. Use two hands to expand the legs and fold them down into their locked position.
  3. Re-tighten the bottom knob to secure the legs and ensure a stable base.
  4. Loosen the knobs for each of the vertical extension sections to raise the stand to your desired height.
  5. Tighten each knob to secure the height. The stand can reach a maximum height of 1.8 meters.

2. Assembling the Ring Light

  1. Locate the bottom segment of the ring light. You can identify it by the control panel and the light stand bracket.
  2. Loosen the knob on the bracket and twist it to its upright position.
  3. Take the mounting screws from the pack.
  4. Grab another ring segment and slot it into the left side of the bottom segment.
  5. Use one of the provided screws to connect the two segments. You can tighten it by hand or with a flat head screwdriver.
  6. Repeat this process for the remaining segments until the ring is complete. The final piece will require screws on both sides to secure it.

3. Mounting the Ring Light to the Stand

  1. Loosen the mounting screw at the base of the ring light’s bracket.
  2. Carefully place the ring light’s bracket onto the top of the light stand.
  3. Tighten the screw to secure the ring light firmly to the stand.

Powering Your Ring Light

You have two options for powering the light, which makes it very versatile for studio or on-location shoots.

Powering with the AC Adapter

  1. Plug the provided AC adapter into a wall outlet. For safety, I always recommend using a surge protector.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the DC input port on the back of the ring light.
  3. Flick the power switch to the left to turn it on.

Powering with Optional Batteries (Sold Separately)

  1. Press the red button on the battery plate covers and slide them off.
  2. Align your compatible batteries (sold separately) with the mounts and slide them into place until you hear a click.
  3. Flick the power switch to the right to operate on battery power.

Using the Included Accessories

This ring light comes with several attachments to mount your devices.

Here is how I use them.

Mounting a Mobile Phone

  1. Screw the flexible gooseneck into the mobile bracket.
  2. Loosen the round knob at the base of the gooseneck.
  3. Slide the base into one of the four mounting points on the ring light (the bottom one is most common).
  4. Tighten the knob to secure it.
  5. To switch between landscape and portrait, you can use either the bottom or the back mounting point on the bracket itself.

Mounting a Camera

  1. Take the included camera ball head mount.
  2. Loosen the round knob at its base and slide it into one of the mounting points on the ring light.
  3. Tighten the knob to secure the mount.
  4. Screw your camera onto the quarter-inch thread at the top of the ball head.

Attaching the Mirror

  1. Loosen the screw on the back of the double-sided mirror.
  2. Slide the mirror’s mount into one of the ring light’s mounting points (the top one is great for this).
  3. Tighten the screw to secure it. One side is a standard mirror, and the other offers 4 times magnification.

How to Use the Remote Control

The remote is essential for making adjustments when you are in front of the camera.

  1. Insert the provided AAA batteries into the remote.
  2. Turn on the ring light using the main power switch.
  3. You must pair the remote first. Within 8 seconds of turning the light on, press and hold the ‘ON’ button on the remote.
  4. The ring light will flash 3 times, confirming the remote is paired.
  5. You can now use the remote to turn the light on and off, adjust brightness, and change the color temperature.

A Pro Tip: Using the Tilt Knob

A common point of confusion is the heavy-duty tilt knob.

When you go to tighten or loosen it, the knob might hit the light’s casing.

This is a safety feature.

What I have learned is you simply need to pull the knob outward, reposition it, and then continue turning.

This allows you to fully tighten or loosen the tilt mechanism safely.

Final Verdict

The 22 inch ring light is a comprehensive and powerful lighting solution.

Its large size provides exceptionally soft and professional-looking light, eliminating harsh shadows.

The full control over brightness and color temperature, combined with the remote control and multiple accessory mounts, makes it incredibly versatile.

From my experience, it is an ideal choice for serious content creators, makeup artists, and photographers who need a reliable and high-performance light that can handle everything from a tabletop setup to a full-studio shoot.
